About

Hi. I’m Jen from Durham, North Carolina. I create colorful textile mosaics that reflect the spirit, whimsey and soul of animals.

As a kid growing up in Virginia, I always had some kind of art project in the works. This continued throughout a rewarding career in workforce development in North Carolina during which I felt the continuous pull of my creative roots. In 2021, amid self-reflection, and with an abundance of support from my (amazing artist!) husband, Jeff, I decided to change career course and devote my full attention to the creative process.

Animals have been a constant in my life and heart--from pets to outside critters, those on the farm, in the water, woods or desert. And then there was fabric. My mom and I would frequent fabric shops, exploring the incredible variety of colors and textures. It was a natural evolution to start making art that meshes my love for animals with textiles.

My artistic process involves using hundreds of individually sized fabric pieces glued on canvas to create dynamic images. The fabric is selected and placed to reflect the personality of the animal in its environment. Once arranged, I use a decoupage technique to secure the materials in place, creating a tactile, organic look and feel.

My originals and customized portraits honor the uniqueness of our animal friends, resulting in pieces that I hope you will find energizing and joyful!

P.S. I am pleased to donate 5% of the sales price of each piece to two of my favorite animal charities:  Animal Protection Society of Durham and Richmond Animal League.
